I always knew that there was a lot that I didn't by ChuckAB 2006-11-20 14:00:03
know. (SSSL)

There's a push on in my environment for those with limited admin rights (more than just a user) must have some kind of certification.

I've been reviewing the training for a CompTIA A+ certification and there's a LOT that I don't know even though I've been in this business for 17 years. (And the training/certification is aimed for someone who's been in the field for 6 months!)

It could be related to not having to deal with the stuff I don't know about (SCSI standards for example) and not having to deal with certain items because the OS and machines pretty much handle it for me any more (IRQs, DMA, I/O ports, etc.). I remember dealing with them - but it was many years ago.

I now know more than I did because I'm taking some on-line courses. Hopefully, I'll be pretty much up to speed when they start looking at me more closely and sending me for certification - on their dime.
