Is this being snobbish? by hadji2006-11-20 13:06:36
Even in academia by Ascag 2006-11-20 13:57:17
I have a background in the natural sciences (Physics), and I have made the following observation:

That people from my 'cultural' background, e.g. geeks, natural scientists (y'know what I mean) are usually also interested in topics of the humanities. I know a lot of people including me who have at least basic to intermediate knowledge in history, music, philosophy and so on.

But when it comes to people from the humanities, I observe a substantial asymmetry: In that circles, it is almost a fauxpas to have knowledge in the natural sciences. I have heard the verbatim arrogant comment: 'Ah, that's only ... technical knowledge'

Any idea whats going on here?
