unless you want to use standardised exams somewhere that everyone has to do as a benchmark (high school exit exams, maybe?). For example, I would consider knowledge of how to change oil basic, but not everyone (including me!) knows how. Further, what one considers common knowledge will further be influenced by what one knows and doesn't know. Invariably, someone's idea of 'basic, common knowledge' will lean towards what one does know.
I woudln't say you're being snobbish, nor necessarily unreasonable either. Just seeing things from your perspective. |
