For me, no, I don't think you're being snobbish. But there are elements of the population out there that are anti-intellectual, and a large portion of them (ab)use faith in a given religion as thinly-veiled anti-intellectualism: "What do I need to know that for? All I need to know is found in $HOLYBOOK!" If you try to reason with them, they'll call you a heretic or a gay homosexual sinner or something equally spurious.
