...and though it's an embarrassing question, it's not a stupid one by any stretch of the imagination.
For the record, sexual activity during pregnancy is okay as long as it's comfortable for the woman. The doctors told us that the only time it isn't okay is if the woman's water has broken because it increases the chance of infection for the baby. Before that point, the placental sac protects the baby from infection and ordinarily, it's not until the sac has ruptured and labor is well-involved before the baby would have progressed far enough into the vaginal area to be affected by intercourse.
There ARE some medical conditions that occur during pregnancy which might make regular intercourse risky. Your doctor would be able to answer more completely, but I'm thinking conditions like placenta previa (where the placenta has attached partially blocking the cervix) might increase the chance of bleeding...especially later in pregnancy.
But in general...in most cases...it's all up to what works for the mom-to-be. |
