Senior Democrat Calls for Reinstatemment of Draft | by DesertRat66 | 2006-11-20 08:03:58 |
| I have a life logistics question... |

There doesn't seem to be any details yet on what he wants to propose, but it did mention that his previous proposals have included a draft for people 18-42. So let's run with that for the sake of my question...
My question, then, is how would that work? I'm assuming compulsory service here.
For example, I'm 30, out of college, and fully employed. If the proposal passes, does that I should plan to start my life all over again -- i.e. quit my job, sell my stuff, lose my apartment (no job = no income for rent), etc.? I live alone, so there is no one else to keep the nest while I'm away.
At 30, I could probably get back on track after I leave the service, but it seems like a pretty harsh thing to do to someone who is, say, 42, and looking more and more towards his goal of retirement.
It's an honest question -- if the proposal gets serious attention, I just want to know what to plan for.
Oh, and cynically, I have to say that the influencial and wealth will probably STILL find a way to keep their favorite offspring out of harm's way or shoe them into plum posts. That's just how it works. |
