However, if military spending is not increased due to this, but instead channeled into areas that are more suited to fighting on US soil, rather than deployment overseas, maybe that perception could be allayed. Also, if the title of this is 'mandatory public service' rather than 'draft', it could channel people into non-military service. AFAIC social services in the US could really use an influx of young, eager workers.
