The idea is one thing; I wonder about the implementation though. I don't see how putting large amounts of people through basic training and keeping them only a couple of years would help the military that much. Maybe an alternative to the college exemption would be to make sure that if you study a "useful" field, you get placed in an area where you would use it/gain experience? I'm sure the armed forces could use all the engineers, nurses, and linguists it could get.
