What kitchen equipment and supplies are essential? by Phoon2006-11-20 01:18:14
Pyrex, Crock Pots, and Other Essentials by ellyssian 2006-11-20 08:18:18
At least two large Pyrex glass baking dishes - if you absolutely plan on never having more than four people at a meal, you can swap one of the large ones for a small one.

A crock pot - after this weekend, I'm thinking two would be ideal.

Cast iron frying pan - 12" - and several non-stick frying pans, at least two others in the 12-14" range.

A vareiety of sizes of Corningware.

A double boiler, and a couple pots of a variety of sizes. At least two larger stockpots for pasta/potatoes/sauces.

One or more: (by good, I mean something you're comfortable with - it's a bit arbitrary) good, deep scoop spoon; ditto, except slotted; a good flat spatula; a good somewhat-scoopish spatula; a high quality chef's knife

Two or more: tongs (I use one that has grips of tubular stock shaped like a pair of triangles, the other is stamped and has scalloped edges; they seem to lend themselves to different tasks,) pot holders, steak knives

I can think of more things that are useful, but those are my minimum for a general kitchen.
