My guess would be that the drops are an antibiotic to treat the infection. If I were you, I would call the pharmacist to ask about drug interactions with your preferred over-the-counter pain killer (aspirin, tylenol, ibuprofen, whatever), and if the pharmacist says it's safe, then take the recommended dosage of that until you can get back to the doc. It won't be as good as a prescription pain killer, of course, but it's something.
