paper towel, toilet paper, or tissues. They can break down and contaminate the wound.
Make shift bandages should be made from clean linen, cotton or wool. You can secure it in place with nearly any adhesive, but only put the adhesive 3/4 the way around the bandage so that if your finger swells it will not cut off circulation.

Before putting the bandage on wash well with hot water and soap and pat dry
