public funds. Or at least, has been in the past. Making promises that cannot be kept is very irresponsible -- and that is what the pension is. If it is not properly funded, then the pension promises are irresponsible. What protection do people have against incompetent or irresponsible officials? Not to mention those that outright defrauded the system -- why does there not seem to be any recourse? Why was there no oversight preventing this from happening in the first place? Well - I guess I should count myself lucky. My pension seems to be well secured.
