In almost all of my classes through school, my teachers have sat off to one side with the front row of students about 6 feet from the chalk / white boards.
It gave the teacher enough room to be at the board to write things, but also didn't put anything blocking the projection screen when it was needed.
The people "at the front of the class" tended to be the suck-up's, brown-noser's, and arse-kisser's, which is what I figured the "email to everyone" was directed at - one of those sitting in the front rown who probably took everything in Shorthand, typed them afterwords, and has them alphabetized in a hanging folder back in their room. =JP
