...there is a certain element of society that not only accepts execution as a necessary evil, but revels in it; glorifying it far beyond its utility and into an area that's more than a little disturbing to most.

No one should be ecstatic about the death of another being, ideally. Some dangers need to be removed from the world, but getting enjoyment out of removing the dangers that are alive is not something that should be joyful.

All that being said, I feel that way about every non-plant I eat too. I'm quite willing to consume a steak, even enjoy the taste and texture, but I wouldn't revel in the death of the cow that allowed me to eat it.
