My wife's laptop is dying. The bearings in the cooling fan are shot. The company doesn't provide replacements, it's a non-standard shape, so there's no way I can replace the broken bit.
I've cleaned it out and WD40'd it up several times, but that only helps so much.
I've done all I can do, backed up all her documents and settings to an external drive. Now we're basically watching it die. The fan is making a hell of a noise, sometimes interrupted by a loud thump, or a declining whine. but so far has always restarted itself. If it survives the rest of this year, I'd be surprised.
All in all, quite a tough little machine. Going on six years old. Most of that time it was running continuously, even though it isn't designed for that. Built from cheap components to the lowest possible price. I'm astounded it worked this long. |
