I don't know where you got your numbers, by Ravenlock 2006-11-19 12:55:59
but I know where I got mine (from one of the threads I linked you to); the Department of Justice.

They break it down by year in the PDF linked to in that post, but here are the summations (quoted from that post).
Total people sentenced to death 1973-2003: 7,403
Total executed: 885 (12%)
Total died of other causes: 279 (3.7%)
Total with sentence or conviction overturned: 2,498 (33.7%)
Total with sentence commuted: 335 (4.5%)
"Other removals": 34 (.4%)

The rest are still on death row. So according to the department of justice, more than 33 percent of the people sentenced to death since 1973 have had their sentence or entire conviction overturned.
I understand your anger, and why you feel certain criminals deserve to die. I don't disagree. But it doesn't matter. Until we can do it right, we don't have the right to do it at all.

Like I said, we hashed this all out before. A lot. Feel free to look at the threads I linked to; there's a ton of data there.
