For the curious by UGuardian 2006-11-05 03:31:41
Re: That flamewar

FA is the initials and nickname for Fur Affinity. It's an art gallery like Deviant Art, but it's Furry themed. No linky since there's a lot of adult content and anyone can view it.

FA, like many Furry galleries allows adult art and tries to allow everything under the banner of freedom of expression. Thing is, since it's drawn none of it falls under obscenity laws, so everything is legal, like it or not.

I didn't know this until the other day, but it turns out that Furry has its own version of child pr0n -- it's called "cub pr0n". And again, because it's drawn it's exempt from any laws, making it unfortunately legal.

FA's terms of service makes it against the rules to upload cub art. However, how does one define underage stuff when referring to fictional species? And there's also chibi art, which confuses a lot of people. Chibi != child -- anime fans can understand that idea. As a result, that rule has been ignored, effectively allowing cub art.

The other day the admins decided to make a ruling on that rule. They did so by posting a poll and asking everyone their $0.02 about it.

World War III resulted. Many felt that by disallowing one kink, the site would have to disallow other unpopular topics. Many had trouble with the idea that fictional != real. Many others refused to see that it was (sadly) legal despite the relevant laws had been linked to and quoted in the thread.

One of the admins stepped down over this mess. The decision has not yet been posted by the by.

Obviously this was a very touchy subject, but the number of people that wanted to force their views on everyone else just let the rest of the camel in the tent.

On another note the LJ spillage was deleted while LJ was down. Pwned from both angles it looks like.

FA isn't a normal stop for me, and after this debacle I've got several new reasons why I don't hang out there. Oy vey, what a mess.
