Oh boy, prepare for trouble in Iraq by Control 2006-11-05 02:24:02
And not just in Iraq, but throughout the middle east, and possibly in other parts of the world.

Hussein verdict: Death by Hanging. (no clicky necessary, it's all over the usual news channels)

This might have been the worst possible choice. Not only is there the whole martyr issue, but also other consequences:

- Using the death penalty will cost the new 'Iraqi Government' credibility in most countries of the world, where the death penalty is seen as a barbaric process. Adopting it is a further sign of the government being a puppet of the USA.
- The method of execution is an insult to people still supporting Hussein, Sunnis and others alike. Hanging is reserved for the common criminal in Islamic culture. Treating a former head of state that way is demeaning towards a whole section of the population.

The correct verdict would have been to have him rot in a cell for 15 or 20 years until he has faded into obscurity, then have him exiled by the (hopefully working, and finally credible) new Governemnt
