hardware check please: by Blindman 2006-10-26 20:16:16
I was given a Compaq system by one of my users and told "it just got put in my basement when I moved, don't know if it even works. I just don't want it in my basement. It is yours."

Cool, let's see:
Athlon 1.3 Ghz
512 MB
80 GB HDD
DVD rom
CD+-rw
Linksys PCI 11g card!

let's fire this baby up!.....or not....

no post, but fans and drives are spinning. I pulled everything off the mainboard it can spare, disconnected all IDE and floppy cables. Removed PCI NIC, PCI winmodem (yuk!) and Linksys card.

Power on!....or not....

no post, no nothing - well CPU fan is running.

Therefore - mainboard is dead right? Scrap anything useful and toss the rest right?

Anybody have a board that can use an Athlon 1.3 Ghz CPU? It's not that much over what I'm already running on the second PC and much below my primary PC, so it's not worth buying a mainboard to see if the cpu is good.
