I made an iso from the same disc by maximumbob2006-10-26 17:34:21
  Kernel 2.6? by bwkaz 2006-10-26 19:45:08
I've heard that -- supposedly -- some IDE CD burners with cdrecord and kernel 2.6 write some weird padding bytes after the CD if you burn it in TAO mode. The kernel devs and Jörg Schilling each blame the other party for the problem (so what else is new).

This padding doesn't cause problems when the files are accessed on the CD, but it does cause mismatched md5sums between the ISO file and the CD. It also causes I/O errors when you try to dd the CD back to another ISO.

Supposedly you can burn in DAO mode to avoid it.

I've never actually seen this behavior (my burner apparently isn't one of the ones that does this, if any really do do it), but supposedly some TEAC burners do. Others may also.
