Read the Han Solo trilogy. It documents the events of Han Solo from his humble beginnings as a youth on a smuggling ship (if you can consider the beatings he endured), to his time (and his eventual expulsion) as an Imperial officer, to how he wins the Millenium Falcon from Lando Calrissian, and how he winds up on Tatooine to pay off the debt owed to Jabba the Hutt. IIRC, he's in his late 20s/early 30s by the time he meets Obi-Wan and Luke at the Mos Eisley cantina.
