Well... according to the books I've read his legal name was Jack Benny. That had tax implications because of a weird practice where stars would sell their stage names to major studios. But, according to the book I read, Benny couldn't do that because you couldn't sell your real name.

So... somebody's not quite right here. Whatever. Makes dismissive gesture
