about recovering from smoking. My father-in-law quit smoking about a year and a half ago after having smoked for 50 years. He is now suffering from end-stage emphysema and is in considerable distress much of the time. And both my grandfathers died from smoking-related cancer, and had severe emphysema well before the cancer was diagnosed.

On the other hand, my mother smoked for a couple of years before her marriage. My dad made her stop, and she's been fine since.

How many cigarettes/packs did you typically smoke a day?
