if the vinyl is clean and static free, the deck is high quality and the needle is top notch.

People who object to vinyl usually do so because of the phonograph 'hiss' that should only exist if your setup isn't optimum from end to end.

I can even tell there is a lower fidelity to factory burned audio CD's than there is to top quality vinyl. Usually the highest frequencies lose stability first, and intense transitions get digitalis from a non-analog audio medium.

The only real solution to make good analog audio into digital audio is recording into something lossless like the digital source from pre-pressing (the stuff they keep on DAT); you get something on the order of 100MB+ per 5-6 minute song, but *NO* human ear can distinguish from analog at that point (I don't care what you say -- it's like people who claim to distingush between 600DPI and 1200DPI in process work, with the naked eye - yeah right.

I still think it's good to record vinyl to digital ANYWAY; to preserve the vinyl for special occasions, don't over-use it or wear it out. keep it safe in storage and so on. If you record in a lossless format, or at max bitrate on MP3, you should have a hard time telling the difference.

What is an "intense transition"? by kelli2172006-10-26 07:43:55
