I got a copy of Chessmaster 10th Edition earlier this year, and the forums were the only way I found out about a patch. Start at forums.ubi.com/eve, PoP is about three quarters of the way down.

Somebody there suggests a change to the hardware.ini in the games main directory. They say to change NonPow2Textures=0 to: NonPow2Textures=1. Don't have the game myself, so I have no idea how well it works.
