Build a DVR system where it automatically records the first few minutes of the show, then you sit down to watch it from the start of the recording, and just have it write to the recording as you watch it. That way you could fast forward through the commercials (assuming you give it enough time to start with, so you just almost catch up at the end). Or something like that ;)
