Might wanna try uninstalling audio or video codecs that you don't use. I had a bunch of codecs on my system from Gordian Knot Codec Pack 1.9, and when I removed them, the choppy cutscenes I was getting in Battlefield 2 and Tachyon:The Fringe became as smooth as can be. Not sure WHICH codec was causing this. I removed everything except the DivX 5 codec and Xvid codec, of the half dozen or so installed by GKnot's codec pack.
