firewall question by ag_wyvern 2006-09-25 21:10:51
Son wants to use his XP machine as a dedicated server for Soldat (a shareware multiplayer game). We usually have four XP boxes running on the home network, with one of those systems (not his) being used as to share a number of files.

From their 'manual':
The Soldat server uses the following ports:
UDP: game port (default 23073)
TCP/IP: admin port = game port (default 23073)
TCP/IP: files port = game port + 10 (default 23083)

Okay... the question. I'm not geeky on this stuff at all... can the shared files be at risk if he sets up the server, opening his software firewall for those ports? What do I need to do if so?

Thanks.
