* Latest Drivers (for everything: the game, audio & video, etc).
* Defrag the drive.
* Unload as much as possible before playing the game (unplug the network cable & kill the firewall, antivirus, etc) until you're d4-near running *nothing* except the game - the more RAM/CPU cycles you can dedicate, the better it'll run.
The less your system is trying to do in the background, the more it can dedicate itself to running the game at it's best.
If even that isn't helping, try turning down some of the eyecandy levels.
If the game relies on a cd, see if you can use a program that allows you to store the entire cd (as an ISO or IMG file) to the HD instead - the CD is a LOT slower than your HD, and the more the system can ignore the CD in favour of the HD, the faster the throughput will be.
(I play Total Annhiliation at max rez, full screen, with absolutely NO artifacting, and it's because I have the cd as a .VCD mounted on the HD.
If it were having to spin up the CD to read the data, I'd have to cut it WAAAAY back, and then it would utterly stink.)
Hope Those Help. =) |
