Ho, Spanish-speakers by ihope1272006-09-25 17:53:09
Not a native speaker, but... by Anonymous Freak 2006-09-25 18:31:26
I always learned that even foreign-derived words, other than proper names (and even sometimes those,) you pronounced them as if they were Spanish. (Hrm. Is 'quiz' an official Spanish word, though?)

So I would say 'fee-eh-breh' and 'ah-ho-gahr' (Those pronunciations are for someone used to English. Of course, in Spanish, the pronunciations would be just 'fiebre' and 'ahogar' :-P )

Also, where is your Spanish teacher from? Spain-Spanish and Mexico-Spanish are about as different as England-English and American-English.

But, word from a native Spanish speaker would be more reliable than mine. Mine is just based on a few years Spanish lessons, now a decade removed, plus some time around native Spanish speakers.
