, it could be that favouritism creates dependency. The favoured one never learns to stand on his/her own two feet. Or develops an unhealthy sense of entitlement. I know this is not the case in my wife's family - the issue there is mental illness - but it could well be the case in other families. So beware parents bringing gifts!
