I tend to buy most of my music directly from the record label (only because most stores don't carry the stuff I listen to), or likewise I buy the MP3s from iTunes, Yahoo!, or other pay site; or download them for free via Amazon.com or from independent artists' sites. Otherwise, it's a gamble looking for CDs on places like eBay.

(I used to have a rather extensive collection on MP3.com before they went belly-up and eventually came back, but they don't offer stuff for free anymore.)
