It's been so long since I last bought a music cd that, if it's not already in my collection, I probably don't have it.*
I ripped *ALL* of my music to cd years ago, and then put the cd's away "for safe keeping".
So, if I get tired of listening to a particular song, I tend to delete it from my "Current Play Folder" (knowing I still have a copy elsewhere) & then eventually forget if I have the album it came from. =Jp
I occasionaly browse my Archive disks of MP3's, but only if I'm looking for a particular song/artist.
Now-a-days, if I hear a song I like, I tend to just buy the MP3 download, then copy it into my "Current Play List" and "Archive It For Later" folders.

* I don't share my stuff, so it REALLY ticks me off to have the RIAA treat me like a criminal, or Sony trying to root-kit my system, because I felt like buying their product.
I'm trying my best NOT to reward them for their stupidity/greed/RICO violating ways...
=/
Now I either buy it directly from the Artist, or I hit sites like iTunes, Independant Artists offering their stuff from their site, or going to concerts to listen to them live & buy a cd straight from their hands.
The RIAA can *KMA*. =(
