Exactly. "Cynical from experience" - and now optimistic from experience. How hard do you have to work at "projecting an image" of social acceptability and stability? Have you been known to deliberately ignore people who are speaking to you? Do you leave in the middle of a conversation they're participating in? Do you generally respond on-topic to others' remarks? If so, then you are socially acceptable, and regarded as stable and mature - there's no "image" you need to project.
