Well, they'd go to the Washington State Police force for confirmation, oh wait, that's who told them in the first place. This was an internal, domestic matter in the States that risked spilling over the border.

Had this been some terrorist bomb threat, then perhaps, yes, they could have and would(should) have confirmed it. But in a situation like this I find it very difficult to blame the RCMP for not confirming the threat. Besides, we should trust our allies, no?
