That's the part I'm sometimes worried about. I'm definitely not "plugging away at finding someone," as you say. If it does indeed require effort to find the person who will make me happier than I am, then I'm not going to end up meeting her. I don't expend the effort, so it seems like she's out there and I'm not (hence the "missed opportunity" feeling).
