I have you beat by a few years. by AndyA 2006-09-25 11:05:32
Around 26 I decided that just bumping into the right person obviously wasn't going to work and started deliberatly trying to meet new people.

I tried personal ads., joining groups that would meet for a mixture of random social events and just generally being more chatty to random people in bars/coffee shops. The latter resulted in some very interesting conversations but not much more.
The social groups were fun and and I met a few nice people but nothing that ever went anywhere.
The personals resulted in a large number of first dates which just didn't work.

I found that the fancier the dating site the less use they were. For me at least the profile matching just never seemed to work, it would always match me with people who were the exact opposite of what I was looking for.
In the end I gave up on them and went for craigslist. It has a far higher level of junk, you are going to go on more 1st dates and less of them are going to be ones where you want a 2nd date. But ultimatly the more people you see the better your chances, eventually I had a first date which lasted 7 hours.
That was considered a good sign by both of us.
