Although there was a strong undercurrent of attraction between us (I kind of thought it wasn't mutual though), my wife and I were "just friends" for about six months before we actually got together (hmm, that was 18 years ago last month). Other than that, I think I only ever dated one person who started right out as a romantic interest (a girl in a class with me who asked me out).
