Music question: by Tyop2006-09-25 02:38:03
There are some differences between keyboard and... by Khaar 2006-09-25 03:40:40
...piano. On one hand piano has a better and fuller sound and on the other a keyboard has more sounds (or sound fonts). Keys on piano and keyboard differ even more than those on typewriter and computer keyboard. On piano you have to strike them, on keyboard it's enough to touch them (although that differs on different keyboards) and the strike itself controls how the note is played (yes, there is a great difference). Pianos also have some pedals which most keyboards don't. I'm not familiar with their function, but I think they control whatever the thing is called that muffles the strings.

All in all, they look similar, sound similar, but play a bit differently.

Oh, and because keyboards have sound fonts and also a selection of rhythms, some teachers tend to take advantage of that rather than teach the "classical" piano playing. I know, I was tough to play keyboard, not the piano. Long years ago that was, I don't remember a thing. Nevertheless, I am thinking about getting myself a new and proper keyboard and try again.
