As was mentioned, MIDI is just instructions on what notes to play when. Like sheet music. A WAV (or MP3,) is a recording, like on a record or a tape. It would be like asking for a machine that can take an 8 track tape and produce guitar tabs from it. It just doesn't exist.
At present, the only reasonable way to do it is with MIDI creation software (which usually just shows you a music bar, and you click your notes in place,) and a human listening to the MP3 recording, and determining which notes are being played when.
I have heard of 'research' software that can try to transcribe music, but it tends to only work for extremely simple music, such as guitar or piano solos. If there is more than one instrument playing, or someone singing, it's beyond the reach of current computing and software technology. (Well, it's probably not really beyond possibility, just reasonability.) |
