Will sanctions work? by Peace_man 2006-11-19 12:55:59
Chirac does not appear to think so.

His words have some weight, considering his country's success with ending the recent violence in Lebanon.

And we have seen that sanctions only seem to entice corruption, and don't have any effect on the leaders of a country - it only entrenches them and makes them wealthier and more corrupt.

So what might be a solution? Is it possible to appeal to the man in the street? The poor schmuck who only wants to live a life in peace without being shot at, or risk having his house bombed? The moderate Muslim who is not seriously contemplating becoming a martyr, and would rather not see any of his friends or relatives do it either?

Invading Iran would not appeal to this demographic, I'm sure. It would simply entrench their support for anyone fighting the invaders.
