no-confrontational and maintaining your professionalism is the key here. He is aking you to be "unprofessional" because he is being unprofessional by expecting you to give him all your suppliers and pricing information.
I would respond to his letter and CC his boss to make him aware of this issue about the unpaid work and about this person second guessing the boss' decision to go ahead with the project. I understand whe he is getting at but IMO *YES* he is trying to cut you out of the loop except for what he has to use you for...while getting access to all of your resources. ***DO NOT call him on this as it will leave you with no paper trail!!!*** Make sure all business decisions are backed by a confirmation e-mail from here on out. If it comes to it then you will have lots of the necessary legal documentation. Verbal authorization doesent mean much in court. If he continues just tell him flat out that you can not give out that information without him paying for your services as a consultant and you will charge him a LOT for the effort to locate those vendors, the time involved in creating a relationship with them and him trading with them on your good name and reputaion with them. :)
Say something along the lines of:
Dear Jerk,
While I understand what you are saying you also have to appreciate the quality and quantity of the level of work I have done for you in the past. You also have to understand that I am in business to STAY in business and to do so I have to charge a mark up on the products and services that I re-sell.
On this project, I have offered you an excellent pricing structure on the hardware and software that is necessary for this project as a package. If you are going to purchase items form seperate vendors in the future then the pricing you receive will reflect that. I will also be unable to support products that I did not sell you as they are another vendors responsibility to service at that point.
I invite you to competitively shop my prices, in fact as a good businessman, I would expect you to do so. If you find better pricing somewhere else let me know and we can look at the pricing structure.
Sincerely,
(your name) |
