Don't readdress the invoice, it may have been a week, but tyring to catch them in an unprovable lie won't really have any benefit. This guy sounds like my boss, and you will get no-where by using the truth. In addition anything you do to stand up for yourself is going to be seen as being a problem. Your not, but this jerk will see it that way.
Dear Jerk,
I hope you will understand that part of my position as consultant includes negotiating the best price for you, my customer. I assure you that what I bill for hardware and software is my cost.
[Insert here some other reason for purchasing them yourself, maybe the tech support, warranty, faster processing whatever.]
If your company is ready to proceed with the purchase immediately I will be happy to submit a bill for the estimated cost of the hardware and software upfront, and you may this with the check to be issued for Invoice #####.
