Hmmm if you had the budget by AndyA 2006-09-18 10:46:36
then that is exactly the market for a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) GPS system.

We have a unit with built in PDA and an application designed exactly for that sort of thing. e.g. you define the data types of a booth (a point with a unique number and a text name), a path (a line with a width field) and any other sort of data type you need and then walk around entering the data.
When you get back to a computer you can download the data and run all sorts of corrections on it to improve the accuracy.
You can then either query the data base on the fly and have it direct you to a certain booth or plot the whole thing to create a map.
We even ran off a quick hack to convert our data format into the google earth format.

Assuming you were looking at $100 or so then the total cost of a setup like that is going to be way outside your budget. The equipment and software would cost around $3k to get going.
Alternativly there are place you can rent the equipment from.

ESRI are the big company in the US GIS market. If you can find a local dealer for them they may be able to give you a rough cost for renting the equipment and training or for them to do the mapping out.
