1. Crane fly is called daddy longlegs - never heard of that before.
2. what I had always thought were the male mosquitoes are actually crane flies.
3. my parents were incorrect. Or made it up. *sigh*

I had always thought that the large critter was the male skeeter, had been told that always. AH well.

Upon investigation, the male skeeter looks just like the female and is about the same size. I've been wrong all these years.

Its good to find out, I suppose, before I pass on the incorrect info!
