| If you have lousy optics, a lousy back-end, and a tiny-format sensor, then adding more sensor sites is only going to give you noisier, fuzzier images that you will have to scale down to make look decent -- buying you nothing. But if you have the optics quality, sensor size, and electronics quality to back it up, then suddenly there's a genuine difference between 6 and 8 and 10 MP -- more raw material to work with, but also bigger files and longer save times.
And don't forget that megapixels are a "square" measurement, either. 12MP only represents a doubling of resolution as compared to 3MP. |
