Most small houses (and quite a few larger ones) in Sweden are built primarily of wood, and they can certainly take quite a beating from the weather. And in reference to another of your posts in this thread -- they do last for centuries. The house my grandfather grew up in, which is still owned by relatives of mine, is still very much livable. That house was built in the 18th century, and has not had any renovations done in my lifetime that I am aware of. And there are many more like it.

But of course, having seen English housing standards I wouldn't be surprised if you have problems with rotting houses...
