One thing which would be important if you do use the median is also to report the range, maybe reporting the interquartile range to cut out outliers.

I say this, because the median is saying '50% of the results will be higher than this number, 50% will be lower.' As such 50 is the median of both {1,25,50,51,100} and {48,49,50,51,52}, "a median of 50" doesn't really tell you much about a range of data but these ranges could be quite accurately reconstructed from "a median of 50 and a range of 5" or "a median of 50 and a range of 100" for example.
