Got a conceptual question, not a math one :)

An experiment was repeated 6 times (identical conditions).
When 'averaging' the results, it it legitmate of using the median instead of the aritmetic average? (Data looks better when using the median as it reduces the efects of the outliers).

And regardless if yes/no, why?
