I wrote an alternate memo ... it's on my LJ, and as usual, I'm pretty sure it'll offend a bunch of people. It's by no means a "recent development" like the text sounds (that's just contrived), but I've definitely become more aware of it since I've started to take musicianship seriously again.
Funny how that sort of attitude wasn't really around me back in my early teens (when I was at the peak of my classical pianoness). Either we (the people in my music program) weren't old enough to recognize that we were acting that way (unlikely) or simply that it's only the college experience that does it to you. (Note: I was getting part-time instruction similar to that of the practical side of college music classes back then - aural training, ensemble performance, master classes, playing before a jury, music theory/history, etc.) |
